Description

History
Originally a Saxon town, the Borough of Bedford was awarded Charter status by Henry II in 1166. John Bunyan, author of Pilgrim’s Progress, was born near here in 1628. Throughout the years, Bedford has been home to many famous characters including Glenn Miller and Ronnie Barker.

Bedford Corn Exchange provides a venue for a range of theatrical and music events, including the resident Philharmonic Orchestra. The Civic Centre and The Gatehouse provide a home to community theatre and the new BCA Gallery, where works include Warhol, Picasso, Moore and Turner.
